Our Roots

From Back 2 Basics to a new generation.

We began as The Village — Back 2 Basics, with a simple, powerful idea: remember how our community used to be, when neighbors looked out for one another and every child had guidance.

As times changed, the youth of today face challenges that need that foundational village more than ever. So we evolved into Old 4th Ward The New Generation Inc. — restoring respect, providing solid guidance, and steering our children in the right direction.

Meet the Founder

Veronica C. Grant

Founder & President

From Logistics to Community Leadership. Before dedicating myself fully to community advocacy, my career was defined by the open road — eleven years team truck driving with my husband Ryan, and over six years managing taxi, sedan, and dispatch operations. Logistics taught me how to coordinate operations; my true calling has always been coordinating opportunities for people.

Grounded in Science, Driven by Purpose. I pursued a bachelor's degree in Human Science at Post University. That foundation, paired with lived experience, reinforced a core truth: a community's greatest asset is its people, and our future relies on how we support our youth today.

Preserving Legacy & Building the Future. Today I am proud to serve as Founder and President of Old 4th Ward The New Generation Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) dedicated to community preservation and youth empowerment in Annapolis — from Unity Day to the Deborah Ann Johnson Memorial Scholarship, and the upcoming New Generation Rise Up mentorship program.

Our work honors where we come from while investing in where we are going.
